The Best Way to Cut Your Lawn

There are few things better than admiring your yard after hours of working on a hot summer day. Have you spent weekend after weekend pushing the mower and picking weeds and still don’t see that your lawn is looking its best? There is more that goes into proper lawn care than meets the eye.

Let’s get back to basics and understand how you can improve your favorite Saturday morning activity - mowing the lawn.

Am I Cutting My Grass the Right Way?

Cutting grass doesn’t seem like rocket science, and though a cut is a cut, it’s not always that straightforward. There are easy ways to improve your lawn’s appearance by considering your lawn care routine and how you are cutting your grass.

Here are some grass care tips to consider:

  •       Alternate mowing pattern - try a diagonal cut to switch up your routine if you tend to do straight lines. Don’t just stick to one design.
  •       Regular mowing - keeping a consistent grass cutting schedule will give you the most suitable grass length.
  •       Set up a watering schedule - Take into account your local weather and type of grass to come up with a watering schedule that gives you the most benefits.
  •       Keep grass at a reasonable length - cutting grass too short can be a stressor on your lawn and inhibit root growth.

Putting the extra time and care into your lawn care routine will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment. These tips can help you get a few steps closer to your greenest and healthiest lawn yet.

How to Tell If My Grass Needs Fertilizer

Your grass care routine can be straightforward, even with the addition of fertilizer. If you’re not fertilizing your grass or your standard fertilizer just isn’t cutting it, try liquid fertilizer. It outperforms traditional granular fertilizer because it is super easy to use and shows results faster. The grass is not always greener on the other side, but if you’re using our liquid lawn food, there’s a better chance it will be. Here are visual keys to tell if your lawn might benefit from a fertilizer:

  •       Brown spots
  •       Patches
  •       Weeds
  •       Thinning

Monitoring your grass care can help you respond to any issues promptly. You’re likely the most up close and personal with your lawn while you are cutting your grass, so pay attention to any of the previously mentioned signs.

There are several factors to take into consideration, including your local climate and grass type, that would influence when is the best time to fertilize your lawn. You can lean on the experts at Simple Lawn Solutions to help you solve your lawn problems and teach you about proper grass care.

If you decide to fertilize, check how often you should fertilize your lawn for additional lawn care tips. Keep in mind, the rule of thumb is to fertilize at least once a year for maintenance. Depending on the state of your grass, you may look to increase the frequency of fertilization.
