When you have a lawn care regimen locked down, you can have your yard looking fantastic just in time for that summer BBQ.

1. SEED SEED SEED

There is not too much of a good thing here. If you want to thicken your lawn, simply overseed. Focus on thinner areas of your yard and seed away! While early fall and spring are the best times to do this, you can even perform dormant seeding in the colder weather. The grass will germinate the same as the spring planting would, and the cold winter months will not harm the seeds.

2. Poke Holes In Your Yard

Seriously. Aeration is marvelous for your yard. Over time, the ground around your home can become packed down, causing thin, dry patches. Using an aerator pokes holes throughout your lawn, which helps circulate air, water, and nutrients into the soil. When this process occurs, grass will grow better and thicken your lawn. It’s best to aerate about once a year. Regularity depends on a few factors, including the amount of foot traffic you have on your property.

3. Sunday is Mow Day

A routine weekend mowing is probably the best-known portion of lawn care. We all have to cut our grass! The goal is to keep your grass short and rake up any mulched grass the mower leaves behind. Leaving those clumps can harm the grass, so make sure to pick that up, leaving your grass to grow nice and thick.

4. Feed Your Lawn

Once you’ve figured out things like what kind of grass you have and what’s the best lawn care for your location, finding the right fertilizer is a breeze. We can even help you with that (hint, hint). Using a fertilizer that fits your yard’s needs will thicken your lawn in no time.

5. Hydrate Your Grass

Water is needed for anything to grow, grass included. Occasional deep watering should be a part of everyone’s lawn care routine. The goal is to hit about 6 inches deep. So, hook up that sprinkler and let it go for a while. Letting your yard soak up that H2O is perfect for seed germination and growth. Pro tip -- don’t water every day or for short periods. Just a couple of long soaks every so often. The constant watering could cause other issues like fungus, and no one wants to deal with that.

Having a lush, thick lawn is easier than one may think. All you need to do is give your yard some TLC and attention. Soon enough, you’ll have the best piece of property on the block, and your neighbors will be coming to you for lawn care advice! For more information on making your lawn great, visit us here.
